I'm finally free from Vista. I decided to try it out, and as the system began to deterioriate, and before it became completely unusable, I decided to back up my data, and go back to trusty ol' Ubuntu. For my business applications: For my development environment: I was using cygwin to talk to a remote secure server. Now I'm native. |

So I gave in. I've been secretly using Vista on a variety of machines for the past year or so. It's not that bad, but I must say I am very disappointed in it. Today's post is about my HP DC7600. It's a great machine. It came standard with 2gb of ram and a 250gb SATA drive. The motherboard has 4 SATA channels, so I added 2 80gb drives that I had available as spare parts. This is great, because I can use the extra drives for swap space, which I set up to do. |

According to the article below, your next OS and Office upgrade from Microsoft will set you back almost $700. Granted, it's the "Ultimate" version, meaning it's bundled with a bunch of extra crap (that you don't want or need)... http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/4463/53/ What is Microsoft thinking?? Windows Vista Ultimate edition is going to be geared towards us power users and techy geeks. What Microsoft didn't take into account is that free Operating Systems are starting to get a lot better. Distributions like Ubuntu are making it very easy to switch from Windows to Linux. Completely. For free. This entire website is ran with free code, thanks to Ubuntu and the rest of the Open Source movement. The fact that Microsoft hasn't released a new Desktop Operating System in more than 5 years should be enough to make you think twice about upgrading. Remember when you upgraded from Windows 95 to 98? |
