What an attacker could do
An exposed .git directory lets an attacker reconstruct your entire source code and commit history - including hard-coded credentials and internal logic - straight from a public URL.
How to defend it
Don't deploy the .git directory to production. Block /.git/ at the web server and deploy from build artifacts rather than a live working tree.
