.git/refs/heads/main

Security Researcher Detected: You might have ended up here because your site vulnerability scanner found something interesting. Hi! I'm a security engineer and I'm having a good time interacting with the people and bots that are interested in information security.

You will hopefully find this site is well-secured and I'm not interested in being hacked. I'm interested in learning about how people try to hack me, though.

What is this endpoint?

.git/refs/heads/main

Git reference pointing to the tip commit of the main branch

What an attacker could do

Reading this ref reveals the tip commit hash of the main branch, the entry point for walking the object graph and reconstructing the entire codebase when the .git directory is web-accessible.

How to defend it

Deny all requests to .git via web server rules, deploy without the .git directory, and verify no source or credentials were exposed, rotating secrets if they were.
