What Did They Say? – Recover a Suspended Bluesky Account's Last Posts

Enter a Bluesky handle or DID and this tool replays the public AT Protocol firehose (via Jetstream) for that one account, showing the posts, deletions, and the exact moment it was suspended, taken down, or deactivated. Bluesky hides a suspended account's posts, but the events are still in Jetstream's lookback window for roughly 36 hours. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is stored here.

How "What Did They Say" works

Every Bluesky account's posts, deletions, and status changes are broadcast on the AT Protocol firehose. When Bluesky suspends or takes down an account, the app, the public API, and even the account's own hosting server (PDS) stop serving its posts. The firehose events that already went out, though, sit in Jetstream's replay buffer for about 36 hours.

  1. Resolve. The handle is turned into a DID using the public API, then the DNS and well-known methods as fallbacks (the public API refuses to resolve taken-down accounts). The DID document gives the PDS, and getRepoStatus on that PDS says whether the account is active, suspended, taken down, or deactivated.
  2. Replay. Your browser opens a WebSocket to a public Jetstream instance filtered to that one DID, with a cursor set to the start of the window you chose. Jetstream streams back every post, repost, profile edit, and deletion it has for that account, plus the account-status event that marks the suspension itself.
  3. Reassemble. Deletions are matched to the posts they removed (so you can see what was deleted and when), and the moment the account went inactive ends the replay. If the account is still active, the replay stops once it catches up to live.

Limits. Only posts written inside the lookback window can come back; older posts were never in the buffer. If the suspension happened more than ~36 hours ago, the status event is gone too and the tool will find nothing. Jetstream scans its whole buffer for your one DID, so a quiet account can take a minute or two with nothing to show - the elapsed counter is normal. Accounts hosted on a third-party PDS that Bluesky suspended often still serve their full repository, which is a different (and better) recovery path. The records shown are raw and unmoderated; they are exactly what the account published.
